Castell d'Alaró
Alaró is a traditional Mallorcan village situated at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, where the mountains meet the central plain of Mallorca. Surrounded by dramatic peaks, olive groves and countryside, it combines a strong village identity with easy access to Palma and the rest of the island.
The village is best known for the Castell d’Alaró, the historic hilltop fortress that rises high above the surrounding landscape. The route to the castle is one of the best-known walks in this part of Mallorca and offers extensive views across the island and towards the Tramuntana mountains.
Life in Alaró centres around the Plaça de la Vila, with its church, cafés, restaurants and traditional stone buildings. A weekly market takes place on Saturday morning, bringing local produce, crafts and everyday village life into the centre.
Alaró is around 25–30 kilometres from Palma and is well placed for access to the Ma-13 motorway, the airport and the towns of the Raiguer region. Its setting also makes it particularly attractive to walkers and cyclists who want direct access to the Serra de Tramuntana.
The village has become popular with both Mallorcan and international residents who are looking for a more relaxed way of life without being isolated. Traditional village houses, renovated townhouses, country properties and larger fincas can all be found in and around Alaró.
The coat of arms of Alaró reflects the village’s name and its historic connection with the Castell d’Alaró. It features two distinctive symbols: a wing (ala), representing the first three letters of the village’s name, and a castle, referring to the ancient fortress overlooking the surrounding countryside.
