The heart of Raiguer Mallorca
Inca is the capital of the Raiguer region in Mallorca dates back to 123 BC and is famous for its shoe and leather industries. Most of the administrative offices of the region are located in Inca, including the law courts and property and land registry offices.
The town is a mixture of commercial outlets for larger companies like Camper Shoes, large supermarkets and urban areas of apartments and houses.
Inca was known for its wine cellars many of which are now being used as restaurants.
Inca and the surrounding areas were mass producers of wine until 19th century but the plague of the phylloxera insect which destroys the vines root stock arrived in 1891 and the industry collapsed.
Inca is 30km from Palma de Mallorca with excellent access via the Ma-13 motorway and the train line connecting Palma to Inca and Sa Pobla. Travel times to Palma are 30 minutes by car and 40 minutes by train.
Connected to the north of the island by the motorway and to Palma de Mallorca by the train and bus services with good schools and facilities its popular with commuters.
Once a year the Dijous Bo (Good Thursday) a market and the islands main agricultural fair is held, attracting people from all over the island and where various businesses take advantage of the opportunity to display their products.
This is preceded by the Dimecres Bo (Good Wednesday), during which various activities such as concerts and other festive events take place.

The town itself has a historic centre which is being reinvigorated by investment, in the surrounding countryside local government has invested in road improvements and improvements to services.
Which has encouraged those who want a rural life style with an easy to commute into Palma, to rediscover the region.
Inca has one of the oldest village shields in Mallorca which dates to the 13th century, the greyhound on a blue field was a common image in in medieval heraldry. The blue background symbolizes loyalty, fidelity, and good reputation. The sliver greyhound an emblem of prestige, fidelity, and obedience. When Jaume I undertook his conquest of Mallorca in the 13th century, and rewarded one of his nobleman with the lands and wealth of Inca the largest village on the island, the nobleman vowed to be faithful to him displaying his vow on his shield.
