Tranquility in the heart of Mallorca’s wine country

Santa Eugènia  is a village in the central region of Mallorca in the Pla de Mallorca close to Palma de Mallorca.

The upper parts of Santa Eugènia  are 150 meters above sea level, and has views across the Pla de Mallorca towards the Serra Tramuntana, and the eastern slope of the Puig de Santa Eugènia .

Included in the municipality there are also the small hamlets of Ses Coves, Ses Alqueries and Ses Olleries. Each of which has its own distinct character.

The landscape between Santa Eugènia and Santa Maria del Cami is filled with the vineyards of the Denomination of Origin Binissalem. Within the village the Son Juliana Winery is independent of the DO and produces wine with sustainable and carbon neutral ethnics as part of the Vi de la terra Mallorca.  

The village is typical of a small villages in the centre of the island, with narrow streets, stone houses, and a few local cafes. It has a relaxed feeling and all though Santa Eugènia has a small population it is very popular with those who work in Palma de Mallorca and overseas buyers. All of whom enjoy its traditional character and peace and quiet.

 

Santa Eugènia just 10 kilometres from Palma de Mallorca. Is a 20 minute drive to the capital, there is a regular bus service to Santa Maria del Cami the closest train station from which it’s a 20 minute journey into Palma.

Santa Eugènia like many of the villages in the region dates back to the ancient Talaiotic settlements of Mallorca.

During the Islamic period, there were two alqueríes (small settlements), one called Benibahari and the other one, Benibazari.

After the Catalan Conquest in 1250 the settlements and surrounding land was allocated to Bernat de Santa Eugènia which the village takes its name from.

 The shield of Santa Eugènia in Mallorca reflects its historical origins from a 13th-century as a feudal estate granted to Bernat de Santa Eugènia the first governor of Mallorca from 1230 the fortified tower at the centre of the shield is reproduced from his coat of arms.
