The landscape of terraces and small fields dates to the Islamic period agriculture has been the basis of the economy for century’s based on the cultivation of almond, olive, and carob trees. In the in the 19th century like many of the villages in the Sierra de Tramontana the village provided firewood, charcoal and ice collected in snow houses for the wealthy inhabitants of Palma de Mallorca. Isolated and over looked as tourism grew in Mallorca, the local town hall and the Consell of Mallorca made an investment in the infrastructure of the village with investments into modern environmentally and sustainable drinking and wastewater networks. Street lighting and the electrical grid and ADSL connections burying them below ground.
