The sleepy hillside barrio of El Jonquet maintains the old-world charm of a former fishing village. It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. It is made up of small houses once owned by sailors and fishermen who lived from the sea on the seashore. It is considered a Site of Cultural Interest and is protected by the Special Protection Plan (as a Historic Heritage Site of Mallorca. Its alleyways, lined with simple, whitewashed cottages, wend up past old mills to the landmark to the Windmill Museum and its views over the sparkling Bay of Palma. Edging this tranquil enclave are busy streets of Santa Catalina populated with themed bars, sushi restaurants, and noodle shops. Feixina Park divides both El Jonquet and Santa Catalina from the old city walls and the historic centre of Palma de Mallorca.
